Welcome to my page!

My name is Monika, and I am a philosophy (ethics) graduate from Poland. In autumn 2020, I've stumbled upon a basic HTML course, and instantly felt that I want to dig into front-end development. Since that, I'm constantly digging and getting myself into an infinite loop of 'read more...'

I love to draw since childhood - I've made my first dip pen from a bamboo stick when I was 11, and it became my favourite traditional technique. Later I got interested in computer graphics, learning to paint raster images and creating vector illustrations. As I always have been a self-taught, I had to practice a lot.

Besides creating some nice things, I'm also a bookworm, a close-to-crazy cat lady, cRPG enthusiast and a coffee/yerba mate junkie. My imperturbability is a legend among my ex co-workers.

As a web developer*, I want to combine my creativity with constant learning process. I really enjoy coming across new sources of knowledge, finding new features and playing with them in my code. Bugs are not a problem, they're a challenge!

My goal is also to find a balance between design, functionality and accessibility. Personally, I prefer original, but simple and fast-loading pages than just a developer's show off, crammed with impressive animations and highly interactive, but totally not adjusted for low-end machines or weak internet connection. Here's a nice article about it (yup, it's a link this time).

Considering a division that forms on the front-end development ground**, I'll probably put myself on the front-of-the-front-end side. I actually enjoy writing CSS (sic!), but I'm not scared of JavaScript and, after getting my JS skills onto a higher level, I'm planning to learn some React and other things that may come handy.

I made this page entirely by myself, from scratch - the SVG's (excluding the social icons), illustrations and buttons were made just for this site, and I had a lot of fun while creating it***. For vector illustrations, I use Inkscape software, which has a great online community.

Skills:

I use: HTML, CSS, SASS, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap.

I want to know how to use: React, GSAP, APIs and more!

* Or - as an aspiring web developer.

*** Well, nevermind the drastic modifications in layout, changing background from attached pictures through a nice blue-violet gradient to plain ol' vivid blue, struggles with weird JS behaviour and getting rid of dozens of lines of code.
